The darkest place is under the candles

The installation The darkest place is under the candlestick comprises of a combination of image and sculpture in a kinetic object and a six-minute video loop. The object consists of three concentric tori that are arranged horizontally inside one another resting on three rods at table level. In the two tracks formed between the tori, two flags of differing height and powered by DC motors move in opposite directions around the empty centre of the object. The object is axially offset to the video. The object is black. The six-minute loop is presented on a wall screen with a black frame. In a clearing at the edge of a snow-covered forest, two figures dressed in black and wearing long pointed hats form a circle by holding hands and turning around the empty centre.

Sculpture: wood, aluminium, black tin foil, DC motors, 120 x 120 x 220 cm
