One starting point of this project is the most important painter of early German Romanticism, Caspar David Friedrich, and his fascination with the relationship between man and nature; the second is the engagement with destruction – its effects and aesthetic. Nature as well as destruction both evoke feelings of something sublime and overwhelming. Both are fascinating. In the video you see a man with his back to the camera, in front of a wonderful field of rapeseed in bloom. After a while there is an explosion in the middle of the field, irritating the viewers and making them question whether the person with his back to the camera knew about it, and if yes, if he was waiting for it. The video celebrates the relationship between humans, nature, and destruction.
